The next IALE European Congress will take place in September 2017. This edition will be hosted in Ghent (Belgium) and is organized by IALE-Europe and the Department of Geography of Ghent University. The theme of the congress will be From pattern and process to people and action, which reflects that landscape ecology is a meeting point, where pattern and process meet people and action, and is seen as a way of thinking when dealing with European landscapes. The congress will emphasise the integration of pattern and process, as a biophysical component of landscape ecology, with people and action, bringing in social and cultural approaches. This requires a true interaction of natural and social sciences, and of science, policy and practice. Therefore, the congress will be an opportunity to reflect on the state of the art of landscape ecology today. Furthermore, the challenge of the congress will be to reflect on the future directions of landscape ecology as a social relevant approach for science, policy and practice. The congress website is now online: www.iale2017.eu
